Headaches

They range from everyday tension headaches to migraines - indeed some estimate that nearly 30 million Americans suffer from migraines.

9 out of 10 people suffer from headaches; some are dull, some cause nausea, some are frequent, and some occasional. What do you do when you’re having a headache? Pop a pill and wait for the pain to go away? What if we told you there is a better and healthier alternative?

What the cause of my headaches?

Headaches are signals that show us there’s something wrong with our body. Although we feel our headaches in our head, that doesn’t mean the pain starts there. There are different types of headaches, and thus, different causes. There are tension headaches, cluster headaches, sinus headaches, rebound headaches, and migraines, to name a few. Some of these are a result of an unhealthy spine and they can be very uncomfortable. We, at Action Physical Therapy, recognize when a headache is a result of an unhealthy spine, muscle tension, and irritation of the nerves in the neck area, so we offer our chiropractic treatments for helping people get rid of their pain.

How does chiropractic care help?

Our treatments help alleviate the symptoms of different types of headaches by restoring and improving normal postural patterns. We also normalize the muscle tension, stabilize the body in order to reduce abnormal stressors, and restore joint range of motion. Spinal alignment helps the body to avoid a tension headache, and at the same time, it decreases the frequency and intensity of migraines. Depending on the patient’s condition, we usually recommend manual therapies, modalities, and rehabilitation. However, the treatment plans are always personalized to the patient’s examination findings and needs. Our treatments include:

• Patient reassurance;

• Education about the different types of headaches;

• Soft tissue therapy;

• Spinal manipulation;

• Exercises and rehabilitation;

• Modalities, like electrical stimulation or acupuncture;

• Advice for lifestyle changes.

Popping pills is not the smartest idea because medications make your nervous system numb, which means the pain is still here but you don’t register it. Although a convenient and fast solution, drinking pills is not good for your body because you’re causing damage to your liver and kidneys, and most importantly, the underlying cause of the headache remains unknown. What people don’t realize is that their today’s habits are the main cause of their headaches. By spending so many hours hunched over your computer screen, you put some serious strain on your neck muscles, which increases the chance of getting migraine and subluxations. So, in order to get rid of your headaches, visit us today and we will guide you through the treatments we offer while helping you adopt new lifestyle habits that will change your overall health for the better.
